DHS Announces End to TPS Status Designation for Nepal

DHS announced that it will terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Nepal on June 24, 2019. DHS determined that the country conditions have improved since the 2015 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. Further details will be posted in the Federal Register.

Immigration Court Cases Now Involve More Long-Time Residents

Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) found a sharp uptick in the proportion of Immigration Court cases involving immigrants who have been living in the United States for years. During March 2018, 43 percent of immigrants with new cases had arrived two or more years ago, compared to December 2016, when only 6 percent had been in the country for at least two years.

Associated Press: Almost 1,500 Migrant Children Placed in Homes by the U.S. Government Went Missing Last Year

The Associated Press reports that Health and Human Services Department officials lost track of nearly 1,500 migrant children last year after a government agency placed the minors in the homes of adult sponsors in communities across the country, according to testimony before a Senate subcommittee Thursday.
