The Jumpstart Act Would Fix The Visa Backlog!

There are about 5 million people waiting in green card backlogs, and current visa wait times for some family members can be as long as 130 years!

The Jumpstart Act—introduced by Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA)—would recapture 222,000 unused family-sponsored visas, 157,000 employment-based visas, and 40,000 diversity visas.

It would also adjust the system so unused employment-based visas are always carried over into family-sponsored categories and no longer wasted.

The legislation contains an “early filing provision” that allows individuals to pay a fee and submit their application before a visa number is available, giving them the ability to travel abroad and apply for a work permit.

And for those who have waited at least two years since receiving green card approval, they could pay a fee and be exempted from numerical limits!
